Bernadette Dunne is the winner of numerous AudioFile Earphones Awards and has twice been nominated for the prestigious Audie Award. She studied at the Royal National Theatre in London and the Studio Theater in Washington, DC, and has appeared at the Kennedy Center and off Broadway. She lives in Brooklyn.

Audiobooks - its all in the narration

The story is what you expect from a Daisy Dalrymple - good characters and a plot that moves along at a good pace but doesn't throw in too many tricks. I bought the audiobook as I don't get the time to read any more and what a let down! When novels set in English country houses in the 1920s move off the page to the screen or the loudspeaker the secret of success is to match the sound to the period and location. Think Brideshead Revisited or Jeeves and Wooster. Too often in this production the American accent detracted from the story. Following the plot became secondary to listening out for the out-of-context pronunciations. Policemen were doing their dOODy (duty) by pursuing their inkwerries (enquiries); a Welsh character from GLAMOURgan (Glamorgan) first appeared to speak with at least an attempt at a Welsh accent (via South Africa) but through the course of the story this morphed into the standard "Dick Van Dyke cockney" used for any characters who weren't from the upper classes. All in all the distractions overcame the pleasure of the tale and I won't be buying another DD with the same narrator.

I followed the captive series and was excited to find yet another book. Jacks and Hannah's love is exciting. It was also great to take a look back at the other characters to see what everyone has been up too. Great read!!!!!

Another Great Book In The Captive Series

Ms. Stevens has written another great one! The Captive series is one of my favorites, even though it isn't something you'd find in my usual genres. Although I knew that I would read this book just because I love the series so much, I didn't expect that it would appeal to me as much, since the story wasn't centered around Braith and Aria. Honestly, I had prepared myself to be disappointed and possibly part ways with the series. I just couldn't fathom that anything could compare to the intense and forbidden love story that unfolded between Braith and Aria. I'm glad to say that I was pleasantly surprised!

Jake and Hannah's story is beautiful and endearing. I didn't want to put it down. I loved that their story was their own, and not a retelling of Braith and Aria's with the names changed. Yes, there were some similarities, such as the "bloodlink" bond, but the story was definitely original.

As I read more about Jake, aka Jericho, I grew to like him more and more. He was sweet, compassionate and fiercely loyal. The story provides many details about his time with the rebels through Jake's flashbacks. It was nice to have those holes from the prior books in the series filled in, and to see these events from his perspective.

Hannah was immediately likable and seemed to be the female version of Jake in many ways. It was gratifying to see each of these wonderful characters find the love and adoration they so deserved. I am so glad that I went along for the ride!

This 5th book in the series met and exceeded my expectations. Jack was already one of my favorite characters. Watching him struggle with heavy choices broke my heart and made me smile. You'll love every minute.

The countries south of the Mediterranean are currently undergoing a profound security crisis. This crisis is evident to western countries and, because of the growing importance of Muslim communities and migration, is overtly or covertly affecting European daily life. This book was published while the November 1995 Euro-Mediterranean ministerial conference in Barcelona was trying to provide a first response to the possible consequences of such a crisis in terms of security and foreign policy. These consequences, however, are still not very clear to western and European public opinion and are not much more evident to governments. This book aims to contribute to the clarification of the challenges to western security emerging from the Mediterranean area. There kinds of challenges are taken into consideration by the contributors: first, political and institutional challenges and the Arab security perceptions on which western political responses have to be predicted; second, economic and social challenges; and third, the military dimension of security in the area and the low level violence expressed by terrorism. The risks arising from Islamism, terrorism and military factors are pointed out by the authors. These risks underline the need to reinforce economic and social co-operation and to promote international relations in the area.

This book is full of detailed color photos covering disassembly, assembly and repairs. Also contains many tips. Author tells where you can get services performed and who makes good reproduction parts. Even if your not restoring a pan you will find this book interesting.
